No hot water ! Please give advise

We went away for a couple of days and, upon our return, we had no hot water :( Last night, we re-lit the pilot. Shouldn't we have hot water at this point? If not, how long does it generally take from the time you re-lit the pilot until you get the hot water? What other things should I check?

- gas heater

- does have power (power light is on)

- pilot stays litNo hot water ! Please give advise
Hi, When you relit the pilot you may have forgotten to turn the gas valve to the 'on' position. Go down and check that the valve needs turning. It may have to be slightly depressed to turn it just like when you relit the pilot light. It will only take about 30 minutes to heat a full tank of cold water from there. Hope this helps. No hot water ! Please give advise
do you know if the water heater is full of water? If you have gas, power, and water, you should have hot water within 1 hour. If the water heater's thermal cupler is out, you will not get hot water, just like when this part goes out on a gas heater, you will need to replace the cupler. I don't know if you can replace this on a water heater, I do know you can replace it on gas furnaces.
Earlier answer said thermocouple. If the thermocouple was bad the pilot wouldn't stay lit (I had to change mine just yesterday). This sounds much more like a thermostat problem. You won't have hot water in an hour, but overnight will certainly do it.
make sure your hot water heater is in the ';on'; position and check your tempature setting (big knob with arrow ) put it on your highest setting for 3-4 hours and check it again if your water is hot turn setting down lower if its cold call mfg of heater
Bad thermocouple would stop pilot from staying lit.But a bad thermostat wouldn't.Tap the thermostat it may be stuck. If that doesn't fix it call a repair person(for safety reasons)
I don't understand why it has a power light. Does it have a fan that vents the exhaust gases? If so is the fan running?
check your hot water cilinder it may be broken and if it is then lots of money to fix it
ok........... try turning the other tap...............0.0
