Can someone advise on foot pain?

My dad is having severe foot pain in both feet. He says the pain is in the whole foot not just parts of it. As if the toes are going to explode. He says it's a shooting type of pain. I'm wondering if his diabetes may not be a part of it. He''s been out of test strips so he hasn't checked his blood sugar in a week. He doesn't monitor it very well anyways. He says they have been hurting for about a week. We tried putting hot and cold compresses on them. He says he can't feel hot or cold in them. just the pain. He also says the pain has gotten to where it will wake him up in the middle of the night. Any advice people? Can someone advise on foot pain?
Diabetes is a classic cause of the kind of foot pain your Dad is having. Unfortunately, there are no simple answers. It may very well be important to make a distinction between neuropathic pain (caused by nerve malfunction - often due to diabetes) and ischemic pain (caused by poor circulation). Both types of pain can be treated to a greater or lesser degree depending on the situation. Good blood sugar control is important in the long run but may not help the pain a great deal in the short term. The most important thing is to have this evaluated properly by your Dad's doctors. Can someone advise on foot pain?
Get his painful feet to a foot doctor ASAP
What? His blood sugar could be sky high... Diabeties is not something to play around with people come into our ER almost dead from not monitoring their blood sugars. Get some help ASAP. Okay, now that I have calmed down about the blood sugar...Try a foot massager that allows him to soak in water such as a foot massager it will help with the pain and won't break down the skin which is so delicate in a diabetic. The foot spa's are about 20-30 dollars at Walmart. Good luck, I know you are trying your best.
Both my parents have diabetes sounds like he has what is know as uropathy (not spelled right) numbness in the hands and feet. My Mom has it from another condition that she inherhited. My Dad is getting it from to many high sugars and not keeping his diabeties under control. it can be caused by not having your diabetes under control by having to many high sugars. If you would like to find out more information check out the website provided. Good luck with it. We will pray for your dad. Also try to encourage him to get on a plan that will help him get it under control and keep it that way. Don't yell at him or be forceful with it. If nothing else make suddle comments about it.

hi I am diabetic and have Neuropathy in my feet and hands as well.. its like a pins and needles pain? little stabbing all over.. and they feel numb ALL the time, my hands are worse than my feet so far, I wake up nightly with terrible pain in them.. Neuropathy is nerve damage fromt he diabetes..Also sometimes they burn real bad.. His Doctor can do tests to check for it which I would suggest..

It could be neruopathy it could also be a circulation problem or even his heart, any case he should be seen by his doctor to know for sure..
