I second OpenOffice, it's free, compatible with MS Office documents, and capable of everything you need to do.My laptop only has note pad installed,what program would you advise for basic college stuff ext . ?
And Open Office is FREE!!! just in case anyone missed that fact! :D

you would probably want to go with microsoft office: student edition, as thats what most colleges use. Also, most colleges will offer a free download of student edition at their online website, all you have to do is insert your student i.d. number or social security number into the specified slot, and it will take you to the student downloading page
Microsoft office or open office. Although open office isnt that good but free, Microsoft office is brilliant but expensive. Although, as your at college you can get it cheaper through the college. Ask at support services.
